Thanks cisco
Yes she is good looking, nice of you to say.
Very much tongue in cheek on my part.

Hi Lazzz
Thanks for the offer, I think I got it under control, unless you have room on your credit card
Plan is to go back in this Friday, fingers crossed it doesnt rain too much to prolong the time on the hard,
Sail drives getting serviced and fresh antifouling (not that she needs just now but silly not to do)
Thinking about a new through hull fitting for a water maker down the track.

Now I've watched the movie 'The fastest Indian' , I used to get a ride to Church on the back of an Indian Chief motorbike as a kid sometimes but I would never have imagined seeing Indian Chief being towed by a rubber ducky when out sailing today around Russell Island.

I went polishing today, yes I know there is a "what did you do" thread but I don't want to confuse Lazzz and jump forums

yard did antifoul, I supplied ABC3 as that is what has been used in the past.
They also did propspeed.
Props were taken of and serviced off site.

I polished from antifoul to gunwale.
Gets wet Monday

Hi cisco, I agree with your question, Id rather it on the legs as well.
It was a case of re doing what was existing on the legs.

Thanks Lazzz, yes im soooo happy with how LD looks.

Im glad the rain delayed the process, it gave me the weekend to polish and do some other things, like open and check the escape hatches under bridge deck and a simple thing of cleaning the crap (new antifoul) from around the paddle wheel, new fuel filters, as in the complete unit and shut of tap on tanks as they are higher than filter which is higher then motor.
In the future ill make sure I have a weekend in the time frame and not rush it.

Ill be floating around the for a bit at the Bay and then head back to Lake Mac.

I took my scrappy little boat out of the river and up the coast to Hillarys Marina as part of the Dash For Cash race.

It gave me a chance to test my re-rigging and bulkheads/deck repair in slightly stronger conditions than I have been getting in the river. We had very light conditions to start, but they built to a 15-18knt SSWly by the time we finished. Mostly a downwind sled ride, but about an hour beating back South on the windward leg.

The week before I had blown out my headsail and all I had as a replacement to fit the furler was a #3. Consequently we didn't do too well in the race.

After overnighting in the marina we headed back through Freo and up the river.

Quite proud of my little boat, but looking at these photos.. Jeez, what a mess. Time to get out the paintbrush and the polish!

Top effort. Your boat is not a scrappy little mess but a work in progress and not much more to go to perfect. The Cassidy Sails jib - I had these sails on a Farr727 I bought here 2007 and they were great but somewhat past their use by date how old is yours?.........would an Etchells jib fit? Even with minor luff adjustment at the head if needed? And Yngling jib for a no3? I got both of these for the 727.

Thanks for the kind words R13. I'm not sure of the age of that sail. It came with the boat and I've had it in a bag in the attic for five years. I have another #2 that I've been trying to adjust for the roller furler for a couple of years but have not been having much success with sewing machines. I gave up on the DIY and just paid a sail maker to stitch on the luff tape, so all good to go for now.

My main is starting to fall apart too, so looks like I'm up for the cost of a new set of sails at the end of this season.

While your busy sewing, add a pennant to the head of that Number 3 to get the head sail swivel higher up the alloy foil. The swivel needs to be higher so the halyard is not parallel to the foil. That set up is likely to have the halyard wrap around the foil as you furl and that can be a real pain.

Read page 51.

This could save you some real drama!

It's not that sort of furler Ramona. It's a profurl and the halyard is contained in a slot in the aluminium foil, passes through the drum and then doubles as the furling line. This has its own disadvantages as it makes it hard to bend on a sail and then there is no way to change sails whilst underway.

Out sailing today south of Russel Island . Very light breeze so on way back had a look at scenery. Since my last sail in this area a month ago new sights were . House boat partially sunk , One old motor cruiser totally sunk with yellow warning buoy on top , one centre cockpit sloop with official notice attached to boarding ladder and Davidson 40 racing sloop Silverado mastless and looking forlorn in Horizon Shores Marina. Whats the world coming to!

Hi Norm
Cove Marina, way out in the boon docks of Port Stephens,

D'Albora at Port Stephens also allows you to work on your boat, but not sleep on it while it's slipped.

Balmain marina allowed you to work on the boat a few years back when we left Sydney.

Silverado was a beautiful boat; owned by the dad of Grant Simmer (of America's Cup fame) so Grant sometimes did twilights etc on her.

Took the J-boat out to the Broughton Islands. What an under-rated place; pound for pound up there with the Whitsundays IMHO. It was too swelly to snorkel through the shark gully with the grey nurses but we did some other snorkelling, picked a wave on the boogie board and then had great run home in a nice nor'easter with champagne in hand and the GPS ticking to 10 knots.

Also dived under the boat to measure the prop for ORC Club. I'm not sure when we'll do an ORC race but I want to know how quick we should go, compared to the opposition.

There's a bit of money to go into electrics since we gassed the starter battery somehow after a weekend of struggling for electrical power, but hey it's only money and we want to get it right before heading to Queensland over winter.

We had to come back a bit early to look after the grandkids because the daughter has mild Covid. Got back and the sailing club we started running a couple of years ago is buzzing as everyone prepares for the next regatta. Other clubs complain about dwindling numbers and lack of kids and beginners but we're literally having problems fitting the active boats inside the compound because of all the newbies and kids. It's really not that hard, just be friendly, open and nurturing to the new people and keep the top end of the fleet aiming for the big titles.

Around 11 Rivieras out of the GC left Coffs this morning bound for Broughton Islands and then onto Port Stephens ,Pittwater etc. I had never taken much notice of them until daughter gave me their itinerary .

Wasn't much wind but worth going out just to get the main out of the bag and dry it out and stop it going green again. I keep a spray bottle of "wet and forget" on board now so I can squirt on spots that start looking green as we hoist.
