Not having winged before I have to make a choice off alloy boom or inflatable strut wing I already kite foil and windsurf foil I have never tried a wing as there is no one around here where I can demo, but I am leaning towards the alloy boom is there much difference between them I would think the inflatable strut would have a much softer feel and not be able to adjust the wing tension but I'm only guessing. I guess I'm just going to have to buy before I try. not even sure what size wing, maybe a 4 maybe a 5 do the brand very much in power range
Your weight, location, winds you'll be in, size board you're going with will help determine size wing and then it's really personal preference of boom or not. There's pros and cons to both.
And if you will ride waves and want it to flag out nicely. The Duotone is noticeably less well behaved when flagged out.
I've have just started wing dinging and have used the Duotone 4m (a mates) and Naish 4m (mine) only.
The Duotone feels more rigid and seems to be easier to pump the board up onto the foil a bit better than the Naish. It does move around a bit when holding it one handed but I don't see this as an issue for a beginner because it's unlikely you'll be riding swell waves and flagging the wing out yet. The Naish feels lighter and is easier to manoeuvre around while learning and flexes a bit more in gusty conditions. One thing I noticed yesterday while out in a gusty sou'wester was I would kill for a harness line, in which case the Duotone would work better. I'm going to attach a harness line to the Naish and see how it goes. As a beginner you will need either more wind or a bigger wing than someone more accomplished. For me I can't get on the foil yet in under 20 knots. I would recommend buying 2nd hand to learn as you really give the wing a bit of a hiding in those first few sessions, and there are some bargains to be had at present
I have had 5 sessions on the wingding. Today I went in the surf. Man this is the best fun ever. i have tried a few wings. But just as a newbie.
the cabrinha was like a floppy bag
the naish version 1 was not much better
the duotone was great. Especially if you come from a windsurfing background. But it flops around a lot when you are trying to keep it neutral. The duotone is easiest to pumpthe wasp is great once you get used to the straps. This took two sessions. The wasp sits still when surfing the wave. I have ordered the wasp

It's really good to hear first hand the difference between an inflatable struts and an alloy boom the plan is to get back out in the waves
