So fellow axisinians , anyone with some real life experience on the best combo with the 900 high aspect front wing for pumping back out to the waves when prone surfing. I've got the old long fuselage and the 440 back / 75 cm mast.
ultra short / new 370 ? What's the overall stability like with that setup? I can nearly pump back out any loss of speed or one irregular pump and I can't recover.
anyhow thought I'd throw it out there to the people experimenting with this stuff. cheers in advance.
Hey Eppo, I had the 900/utrashort/370 combo & could pump it pretty good (enough to link multiple waves ect). Started with the 440/ultra & found I could pump better with the 370, also turned way better.

I tried with the new down curve stab, it felt weird at first, then I was getting used to it and seems to better for pumping but too much lift at the back. So maybe for a bigger rider (I'm 73kg) or for sup it might be good ?
I just choped my 400 stab, I need to sand it to make thinner, I will let you know.

Yeh I'm about 78kg so kind of in the same weight bracket. Interesting to see how the thinner 400 goes for sure.
So I presume the shorter fuse is easier to pump, given the same back wing.
Then the smaller back wing gives you even better pump ability.
just wondering what is lost in yaw and pitch stability. I don't want to pump better but can't actually stay stable enough on the wave itself.
Wondering if there is a happy middle ground somewhere. Maybe you will find it with the 400.

Where did you put the shim, front or rear screw and what did you achieve doing this?

I've sold all of my kite gear (mad kite frother for about 13 years) & now fully addicted to prone foiling.

Hard not have kites on the west coast! But if you gave me a priority list it would go proning, foil kiting, strapless SB tricks, strapless wave riding then TT riding well down the list.

Hard not have kites on the west coast! But if you gave me a priority list it would go proning, foil kiting, strapless SB tricks, strapless wave riding then TT riding well down the list.

I'd be interested to know what you are finding w/ using shims on your axis gear as I have yet to play around this. Are you shimming in the surf or DWs or... both? Just using washers... on the rear hole to increase lift? Is there much increase in drag? What is the difference between a shimmed fuse vs just bumping the mast forward?
I'm on a 900 with ultra-short fuse and 400 rear on a prone. Works great, but like most foilers I think------ always looking for ways to make what's great even greatererer.

Yeh I have an Amos. Fck knows what it's called but it ain't 4'4... man that's small!! Mines 5 foot 32 litres and I'd like more volume.
Id like to know wtf shimms do full stop! Better for pumping ? Why?
I contacted Axis about shims for the 900 & they suggested cutting a shim out of a plastic milk bottle & placing it under the front screw hole on the rear wing. All this does is reduce some lift/drag, imo its hardly noticeable in the surf.
But I did leave mine in just in case

But I like this set up and it seems to work better for pumping, I should do a true test but I'm too lazy.

When I got my 900 setup it had a shim on the stab, originally took it off. Just put it back on, we'll see if I notice a difference.

Rode 3-4 waves with the shim and didn't like it. 1 wave was like 400-500 yards long and my back leg was sore from trying to just keep the wing up. I could see how I'd like it in bigger more powerful waves, but in the wind swell I had today it felt way better without the shim. Plenty more lift.
900, ultra short, 370 stab.
The shim is tiny, maybe 1mm thicker at front screw, couldn't believe how such a small a change could make such a big change in how the foil felt.
Just got the 370 but seems to almost want to push the nose down on takeoff before it lifts. Anybody else had this before. Board is 5 ft
I'm 90 Ks, on a 5-10 prone, 900 wing w/ ultra-short fuse. I went w/ the 370 on it for a few weeks and liked it, but gave the 400 a go the last few sessions and... I guess counter to many, found that I like it better for me right now. Likely a matter of weight, style and skill.... it just feels more balanced, smooth, faster and still turns great. I also found I pump better with this combo... the 370 was more quick light pumps- 400 pumps are slightly longer gliding arching pumps I can lean into more, that project forward more.
