Hi !

I am mainly doing some dock or rock starts in my area as we don't have a lot of waves. I was wondering if some of you succeed in rock or dock start near the water level, without running, just jumping on the board and pumping.

I mean, I can dock start if the dock or the rock from where I jump is let say 40cm above the water level.

I tried to start from an inflatable dock that was 20 cm above the water or less it seemed impossible.

Every start i do are a jump with no speed, as I only have some spots where I can't run.

I am using a 2400 wing for 65kg.

I am curious of sharing experiences in here !

I took a short cut - convinced my son to hold my foilboard nice and high at the end of a dock so the wing was just under the water, and took a couple of steps to jump on with forward speed, and that got me off and pumping after some inglorious face plants.
Before that, I was doing a static jump that turned out looking like a ferocious hydrophobic monkey sinking - kept the crowd much amused.

A committed local foiler, with a busy life and not enough time to drive to chase real waves, sets up practice sessions near home with a step ladder in the shallows. He sets it up deep enough to jump off and onto foil, for flat water pump monkey practice. Watching his insta videos, over a whole lot of tries over the winter, appears he's got it. So, it can be done from a standing start ... though personally, I have my doubts I'll ever get there. Due to a lack of technical and athletic ability, as well as the necessary perseverance (and just a little bit of age).

I can do the ladder start. This is a video I made last summer.

I am okay to pump a foil if I have a bit of height for the start. I am wondering if when you are near water level and with no speed, if this is possible to pump a smaller wing or you must have a wing with volume in order to have lift at the beginning.
