Going to a wedding in early March in Fiji.Staying on Malolo island, planning on taking foil and hoping to get some prone rides.Looks like there are some good options nearby, swimming pools Namoutu lefts ?

Any advice on best tide times and boats to get there from Malolo and travelling with foils etc much appreciated

Yeah you are right near foil heaven . Tons of boats from Malolo . Namuto lefts on an in coming tide is the go , the paddle back on a outgoing is torture . Right next to that is Wilks right also insanely good . On the other side of that is swimming pools which on the right day is just foil heaven . You can ride all those in all tides . If it's small and the wind is down plenty of fun at Cloubreak as well but you will need half to full tide. Here's a videos of those spots.

It's almost the start of the wind so yes worth taking a kite , generally windy in arvo's. Our winter is best for wind and swell but you don't want the swell for foiling it gets really solid , so you should be fine .It's about a 45min boat ride from Malolo so good idea to have your boards in a cover can get bumpy and it will be still oretty hot so try and get a boat with cover.Malolo is like Hamilton Island you are going to have a blast . Also worth taking a short board if Restaurants is firing you will be kicking yourself if you don't have one , you can't foil it.

It looks way shallower than what it is but yes you will tap the reef with your foil when the reef drains paddling and sitting on your prone so good idea to take a spare rear wing . Take some wet n dry and just rub the wings back. Most wings take the scraps fine and also keep your leg rope short so you don't hook up. I never once hit the reef when I was up and foiling .

Crap, this is killing me...I want to get over there so bad, but from Canada it's $$$ and then the Namotu prices are insane. I wonder if Malolo has some more doable options? Or stay on Nadi ... a billion years ago I stayed at cheapo place on Nadi, was half surfers and half divers (Shipwrecks?). This was one of the last years that boats could go to Cloudbreak, before they opened it up completely. CB was a bit much but I had a gas at Namotu lefts. I recall buddy almost got washed out to sea making a bad decision to paddle from Wilkes back to Namotu ;-)

Now with kiting, foiling, and winging....place looks like ultimate paradise. Some day...

Logistical question: if you take a boat ride from Malolo, how do you handle the logistics of bringing all the equipment for foil / surf / kite, trading off during the day, launching, etc? Assume you can't land on Namotu, so what's the deal?

The cheapest way to do Namotu is staying at Nadi based at Rendezvous www.fijirendezvous.com/
You can see Cloudbreak from there and only 20 min boat ride. Plenty of boats right at the front door and people are going back and forth all day . Not a flash place but everything you need and a really good vibe. It's about a 30 min taxi ride from Nadi airport . All your gear fits in the boats no worries. Re kiting you need to be very confident at boat launching , you can't launch from the beaches at Namotu or Tavarua. Most of the boats drivers have a little knowledge of kiting but only a handful actually kite. If you dump your kite in the surf break don't expect someone to come and get you. Make sure your lines are organised for a boat launch before you get in the boat. We did it dozens of times with no dramas. There is plenty of grassed area at Rendezvous to do this and they also have cut a channel through the reef which means you have boat access at all tides , this is very rare.

Sick footage. I kept holding my breath thinking you were gonna smash your foil to bits.
