Finally put together a video of my Epic Fiji foiling trip 6 weeks ago . Some incredible drone vision shot by Chris Percy. Impossible to get the whole trip in so just featured a few shots from my favorite places. Looks so shallow but I never hit once foiling only paddling back out and for the first time ever never got a reef cut on a surf trip. I was riding my NP Large front and rear on my Sup & Med front and small rear on my prone.
Kick back , relax and dream of foiling this place is foil heaven. Best watched on a bigger screen to appreciate the magnificent colours. Keep an eye out at the end for when I foil under the tower at Cloudbreak
Beautiful. I know you've been asked this before, but what camera setup are you using on your board? It seems like you get better footage from it on this trip than before.
It's the Garmin VIRB 360 , yeah it's taken such a long time to get it right and still improving. You can see it on my board in the still shot at end of video .
Whoa! Nice. Good to see my three favourites. JP, Sunova & NP showing great performance..
My new JP 6ft 8" stability is better than I expected for my 80kg weight.
Tested it out in crazy chop, sideswell & 20knot side on wind. Fell off heaps but was still doable for some nice rides. No paddleboarders out that day because of the conditions.
Anyway that was awesome footage & colours loved it.
Good on you Piros for living the dream.
Have fun!
Dream place piros and cool ride under the watch tower 8)
That left surf break got me pump though and did you sup surf it?
Hi Rob
how often is surf like that in Namotu, and wheres a good place to stay with boat transport, I must do this
JEG no just foiled didn't have any other boards . Scotty summer good time for Fiji smaller swell and way less wind , you will always find something to foil. Rendezvous surf camp is about 30min taxi ride from Nadi airport and is the cheapest place to stay close to Namotu and they have heaps of boats . Or places like Plantation Island are pretty good value . Namotu is $3,750 US$ per week but that includes all your food and boat transfers plus they tow you back out which is huge I did plenty of 600m runs . No level of fittness will let you back up day after day doing those long paddle backs in current . I was destroyed just after 3 days .
Great video Piros! Restaurants looked unbelievable. Did you get any good rides there or was it just too crowded, fast and steep? Cloudbreak must have been big then. Loved the move under the judging tower. I've stayed at Tavarua before when they had exclusive rights to both waves and it is similar price to Namotu. How did you attach the Garmin to your board as I've seen many Go Pros come off boards? The footage is great along with the drone shots!
Hey Southby I just use the large white Go Pro stick on mount , never failed me. I only made 2 out of 10 waves at Restaurants. The drone missed my first bomb on the prone foil , I got lip launched superman style , so lucky not to hit the reef . It was foilable but I needed to take off super wide of the surfers , which would not be cool and very dangerous foiling through the pack . So I sat inside on the sucky.end section , far from ideal but did make a couple.
Great video, this makes me so insane with longing and jealousy, I can barely stand it. I surfed in fiji on a trip back in the last millenium, found it one of the most amazing places in the world, clearest water I've ever seen, dropping in to waves it felt like being suspended over the reef. And when duck diving waves, I remember once the back of the wave acted as a mirror for the bottom, so it looked like the wave was full of tropical fish....trippy.
Since taking up kiting, it's a bucket list thing ... now even more so with foiling. The fishing is pretty damn good too. I would sleep well after spending every waking moment like a crazed ferret chasing fun in every form. :-)
So sick!, inspiring stuff Piros, if I get back to G-Land , hightide end section of speedies could be a goer!!
