Hi,
since I didn't find any specific topic about the new tails I decided to open one cause I'm socked with the performance these things are having! I was riding the 9.5 pedestal with simmed 14,5 flip tips combined with nl160 mostly both in sup and wing. Today I switched to ftl in 10-12 knots winging and boom! So much more power with so little water resistance, 20% better and smooth turning in the chop.
I could only sail it with my feet
out of the straps after the front screws so I went out to change my front strap all the way to the front and plate position 1,5 cm further back.
it's the biggest and cheapest upgrade you can do! I forgot to mention how stiff the tail is now especially in jumps and landings.
I also have one and have ridden it with my NL160 P180 and i can confirm the new fixed short tail is a massive upgrade for surf foiling and wing foiling. Much better pump, improved turning and very low drag. Incredible improvement.
Any change in angle/setup compared to pedestals? More mast forward? Did you move the plate? I have my short pedestal shimmed to the moon and the mast slammed forward.
When a wing feels slow (like I'm having trouble keeping enough speed to keep it above stall) I shim the wing for less lift more speed to get the speed range closer to where I want it and slam the mast forward to get lift back. I found this essential coming back to gofoil from the kujira 1210
Loving the FTS 14.5 on the RS1500 been riding it for a few weeks. Also just got the GT1250, first session in Thursday. So far so good, I'm really liking the new go foil stuff.
I'm coming from takuma 1210 which is a keeper as well. I feel they are both super good and ride them pretty much in the same spot in the box. Should be zero issues going from one to the other. I had a hard time going from takuma to Armstrong, so different and couldn't bond w so bye Armstrong hello go foil! Stoked so far!
I tried the 6.5 pedestal w the 14.5 flip tail and caught 6 waves, I changed back to FTS and won't look back. Looking forward to 12.5 FTS!
I rode the FTS 14.5 with NL 160 GL180 GL 210 for SUP foiling. I kept the same mast position which is at the back half of the track. The FTS has a shorter distance between the front wing trailing edge and tail leading edge than the 6.5 pedestal and still shorter than my drilled pedestal. It has more lift than KD Maui 13.5 and the blunt 12.5 that I have been using.
With the NL 160, it has the rail to rail turning of the blunt and speed of the 13.5. I had moment where I felt that it would breach but it recover nicely. It maybe due to added lift.
I used it once for winging but is too unstable for me. I just got my FTL and see how it goes when the wind pick back up.
100% agree the new FTS & FTL 14.5" are a game changer. Perfectly pitched, plug and play. The FTS is super fun to surf, fast & tight turns. The FTL I use winging, downwind & tiny days with the PNL185
