I am not sure if anyone has done this before. But mix and matching mounting plates and masts can save a fortune. We already know that Takuma and naish us the same mast dimensions. I can now add Gong to that list. They are not a perfect match as the gong mast is slightly loose in he Naish plate and the Naish fuselage - but some judicious shimming is all thats needed. I am currently using the Allevator with a naish mast - its a really tight fit so best done with caution. The pitch of the mounting holes is perfect.

To be honest - I would recommend shimming anyway the tighter the fit the less likely it is to break and it will make your pumping more efficient.

The Shinn mast fits nothing I know of - it uses only 2 bolts.

The manta mast is also 2 bolts but at a different pitch.

Any others to add to the list ? I add this as I am one of the dumb asses that bought a probox board - and really hoping I can find a way to connect to it ! Seriously thinking of going into production to make adapters to connect any mast and any board mount to any foil - I can't be the only one pissed off at the lack of compatibility.

measurements to follow

Thank for this thread! I was looking at the Naish abracadabra plate and Takuma mast compatibility.

My small contribution:
The Gong Tuttle adaptor does fit the Takuma mast, although it is a very tight fit and you will need a mallet and a bit of patience if you want to remove it.

Gong, Takuma, and Naish come from the same factory. Sonic Composites in China.

Slingshot and Zeeko are compatible with a very slight elongation of one bolt hole.

Turns out the pitch of the mounting bolts on a gong/ naish mast is 40mm so the 2 outermost bolts are 80mm apart - sooo this is exactly the same as the bolts on a probox. So I made an adapter and just bolted all the way through the board so it's like a probox with extra support. I am hoping I can prone paddle this and kite it.

That's pretty cool do you have a pic of the adaptor

Will get one but the only really important bit is at the last 10mm to ensure the standard plate cannot move fore and aft or side to side. The rest is done by the tension in the bolt.

another one for the thread - rrd and naish masts are the same.

A big chunk of all the foils available today come out of the one design house. There is compatibility of parts.

Slingshot aluminum setups, Ride Engine foils , and Windance's Foil Works brand are all the same.

So Gong, Takuma, Naish and RRD masts are interchangeable.
Are there any differences in stiffness?
I hate mast wobble...

So the Gong mast is (more or less) the same as the Gong mast, the gong plate also looks a lot like the Naish plate.

Would it be possible to use a wedge made especially for a Naish plate for a Gong plate?

I guess so. The plate geometry is dictated by the US box setting, and as it is a standard, it should be the same for all brands, unless your wedge is not flat, i.e. has some recess in which the naish plate fits.

Ordered a Gong 65cm mast ( and few other bits) to try with my Naish set up so will be interested to see if theres any difference. Notice some flex with the XL Naish wing, but that could be the (older style) fuselage and /or mast.
Great pricing in the UK ( pre-brexit...).

Impressively fast delivery from Gong and their foil bags are great for the money.
Interesting to compare the Naish and Gong masts. On rough measuring the Naish is about 1mm wider, fore-aft and just under a mm profile wider. It sits very snug in both the Naish and Gong base plates, but the Gong mast is wobbling around in both (before screws are tightened). With screws tightened there is still some movement of the Gong mast in the Gong base plate. Shimming from the get go is disappointing but understand all the above.

Weight wise the Gong base plate is lighter than the Naish one and the Gong 65cm mast is about the same weight as the Naish 55cm mast.

Thats v helpful Mwstard as thinking of getting a Naish abracadabra plate for my Gong. Will be interested to hear how the shimming goes?

A wrap of some fairly thin rail tape and its snug with no movement.
Pretty sure an Abracadabra plate would work with a Gong mast and a wee shim. Its on my wish list too :-)

Any compatibility hints with Moses? E.g. to use a Gong mast with Moses fuselage/wings?

If you keep the original Angle of Attack, you can put every wing on every fuselage.

Naish and gong are no longer compatible ! The 2019 mast is too wide for the gong fuselage by about 1mm - I haven't tried the naish 2019 mast in a 2018 plate or fuselage but - the gong into naish was always wobbly and the 2018 mast was pretty much a friction fit - so Naish have probably upped their game a bit on fit. Even so I think the abracadabra is a bit slack.

Has anyone tried a Naish wing in the Neil Pryde fuselage?

would be neat if the 2020 Naish Jet wings fit on the NP setup - looks almost similar

They won't fit. The Naish wing mounting is a C channel. A tight mechanical fit with M6 screws.

The Neil Pryde is flat face fit with larger M8 screws.

Greetings, Foilers

does anyone know if the Neil Pryde Flight AL tailwing fits into the NP Glide Surf fuselage? Looks like a nice rear stab, and looks similar. Anyone try it? Thanks

Does anyone know if you can use gong wings with the old style takuma fuselage , it sounds like you can use niash mast pre 2018 with takuma set ups.

I think the old Takuma fuse had a round component to it, only square on top and bottom.

Yes and no , the holes centre are closer on the AL so I just filled the front hole and re drilled it . But the top of rear Surf foil wings are flat on top so they don't produce lift . So you'll need to sand it flat on top and put a layer of carbon on it . Worth doing makes a really good rear wing . The flat AL 2018 is also a good rear to modify and as it's solid G10 it's really easy to work on. Just grind the top flat and finish with fine paper, easy peasey
