Finally bitten the bullet and starting sup foiling on a DC foiilboard (7'2) and go foil wing setup, Just wondering what legrope setup is recommended as I've had my short 6 ft cord caught around the back wing a few times. Seen waist cords , knee cords and curled cords as well as ankle leashes .
What are your thoughts

I use the coiled no brand waist leash for downwinding and for surf a coiled calf leg or the waist leash if its small.

For a SUP there is only one style www.oneoceansportsaustralia.com/accessories/no-logo-waist-leash

Cheap easy and works perfect, it has no drag and gets it well away from under the feet. If you stretch the coil out over time or big surf then you can just replace that part.

Don't recommend a coil if you are in waves. Ends up a tangled mess.

Very happy with my Balin Storm waist 7 ft leash shop.balin.com.au/collections/01-sup-leashes/products/01-sups

Maybe your WA power

On this side our waves are not quite that strong

Agree though if you have good size surf then the coil can become a mess.

Doesn't have to be that big. I remember this day was a nightmare. Leash ended up about 2 inches long and I got caught inside. Nearly pulled my leg off. Would have been interesting if it was a waist leash that did that

I've never had a problem on the foil board with coiled waist leashes, I have a couple that are stretched a little but they still work fine.

I use them on the foil, race board and the 10'er these days, love em, no getting feet, wings or paddles tangled.

Just use the regular straight 8' x10mm Balin for the normal SUP, ie in bigger waves.

Actually they tangle with the leg movements in the water, when the foot travels back towards the board, if attached to the ankle or the knee.

This is why they do not tangle if used as a waist leash.

I had never used a waist coiled rope until foiling but are a big fan. Everyone has their own preferences but for me I find it never gets in the way especially when having to get out of the water and walk back around to the point after long rides. I have used it in overhead waves many times without any issues - never sprung back at me but always seems to be close by to get on board quickly. Sometimes when I have swapped boards with a mate with a standard leg rope, I immediately notice the drag in the water and keep trying to make sure it doesn't get caught on the foil. I have only had mine caught on the foil a handful of times.

I did notice after about 5 mths that the 10ft (7mm thick) coil does start to stretch and lose some of the tight coil which I think also contributed to it breaking at the belt attachment ( probably related to losing its spring effect). I bought mine from EBay for about $27 from China which seems to supply many of the Amazon and surf brands. www.ebay.com.au/itm/Surfboard-Surfing-Training-Waist-Rope-SUP-Leash-Stationary-Cord-for-Beginner/303357915871
I'm sure One Ocean Sports has a higher quality one and this is a consideration for the level of investment in foiling.
