Hey Fitzup. I am still testing the entire range in different wind ranges, but I have come up with this chart that is still very rough but gives a bacis starting point. I would like to point out I have tried to account for skill levels as I have seen others demo the gear and also put a 1-2kn variance to extreme weight differences of rider. But in general not too far off the mark IMO. Robby feels I may have gone a little too far into the high wind area, so please note I do not recommend beginners ride in all these conditions and knowing your ability is essential for your own safety and that of others around you.
As I get more time on the Wings, I will try to make the chart more accurate and add the 7.2m when it comes. But for now this is in the ball park. Please note that the RED areas are really quite difficult and based on riders that are super efficient at pumping their foils and with excellent technique.
There is a page in the Wing-Surfer user Manual that also states some strengths and suggestions.
Regards,
JB
Thanks JB,just interested in the new Naish range.
dont suppose I could impose there,is there any release date and pricing

The Mk1's are cheap now. Re-sale won't be good 3mths into the year www.windgenuity.com.au/shop/2020-wingsurfer/
I don't understand the wind range concept for a wing when so much depends on the size of the foil wing used.

I don't understand the wind range concept for my kite, when so much depends on the twin tip I'm riding

Agree. Changing wings makes a massive difference. Water is thicker than air.

I assume you are joking. Twin tip vs foil?

Pretty sure they are available everywhere now and I think the price varies according to size.

This is just a guide, there is so many variables within anything out there to give an exact science. Once you become efficient you can actually get up earlier with a smaller foil a lot of the time over a larger one.
Anyway, this is designed to try and give some form of "Range" that one might expect given a riders "perceived" level of riding. (I say perceived as I know myself I can ride in under all these given wind ranges ).
Try not to tech too hard into the chart or challenge as variables of the lift of a different foil or a long mast vs a shorter mast, or lake vs ocean or fresh vs salt or tall vs short or fat vs skinny or ............... will all effect results in some way and it would be near impossible to build a matrix chart to account for everything.

Changing foils can make a huge difference, but also so does skills. I use tiny foils and go much earlier than most on larger ones and generally on a smaller Wing-Surfer too

S25 Wing-Surfer is in stores now! Be quick though. 6m is just about sold out, 5.3 and 4.6 are not far behind. 3.6m is the sleeper and my favourite wing personally, and once people work this out they will be gone too . 2.8m has been quiet, however is an amazing wing in 20kn+, and again once realised will go fast.
Ride safe,

Thanks for all the info JB, I just get a kick out of using them,so much fun.I ride a Naish 140 hover and a Naish xl wing (should make you happy)
I don't get to technical the gear I've got suits my needs,I just want to increase the wind range, for my limited skills.I sometimes paddle a 14'glide upwind towing the 5 mtr wing and and blast coming downwind, great workout ,great fun,for an old bloke.

JB, sorry if you covered this info somewhere but can you provide more details on the wind range of the 3.6? Your experience and then say a 70 kg, intermediate, 90 L board, with 1600 and 2400 Armstrong foils? Also, I assume your chart above is in knots? Thanks

The chart is a good starting point. There is so many variables individually anything more accurate than the chart I would need ride with and get a better idea of ability, technique etc.
As I fine tune the chart, I will repost, but for now I think this is the best guestimation of wind ranges.
I hope it helps,
JB
This is another great opportunity for a google spreadsheet. Get people to post their gear, height, weight and experience and their wind ranges for each wing.
