Thanks for the article. I have always been a bit fin dumb, and just kinda follow what my shaper does never knowing the details Now I get it why I like quads so much.

MangoFingo... excellent condensed fin primmer!

I too, am late to understanding fins.
We played with them over the years but had no idea why anything worked.

This recap is nicely simple and easy to grasp.... thank you

BigHugg man - for sure eh. I think that's the great thing about the never ending search for a different buzz from a different fin set-up. I liked the way the article sort of went back to basics and talked through how fin shape works and talked about different fin designs. I did note they omitted to talk about Quobbas and also the Hanaleis, which if nothing else, (in my view) are far and away the best looking fin on the market. Super keen to see how these ones go BigH. Are these the special custom fins you had made?

But you're a hundred per cent on the button man - at the end of the day, it doesn't matter - so long as what you've got stuck underneath your board make you smile and do what you want them to do, and don't hold your surfing back, then the world's a good place to be.

These Hanaleis look insane (prolly go alright on the Wedge too I reckon ).

Hey J, yeah, myself also. I definitely want to get more fin-savvy and try different shapes, sizes and set-ups.

I liked the way this article broke it down for us fin Neanderthals. Glad you enjoyed the read too man!

Creekoid!!! Glad you enjoyed the read man! Yeah, I've always been a bit of a fin-Luddite too eh, and I got a lot out of these articles - I thought there's probably a fair few crew around who'd enjoy the read as well.
I like things that are explained nice and clearly - preferably with no mathematical equations, not too many long words, large writing and lots of pictures!!!

Probably why I went well in Primary school, then things went south when I hit Secondary school and started missing classes to go surfing!!!

Nice MD
Just sent this and Part 1 to my boy, will definitely be a good conversation over a beer.
Love the look of your 10'8" Revolution BTW, I'm enjoying my 10 footer. Been playing with fins this morning, good fun

Brenno - good to hear from you man!
Been wondering how you've been travelling over your neck of the woods.
Yeah, definitely a few frosties worth of unpacking eh.
It's funny, just when you sort of think you're getting a handle on things, something else will come along and leave you scratching your head and asking more questions. I can see how crew end up chasing the dragon with new and different fins. BigHugg's been an inspiration in that regard too eh. He just keeps pushing the boundaries with fin design and set-ups.

Plus for me, I like anything that shakes up conventional norms. It's about staying true to the punk spirit - as much as a 46 year old middle class whitey can in this day and age anyway!

I hope your young fella digs the read man - it's good for the next gen to understand the origins of design and know that what they're surfing today has evolved over decades of people pushing the envelope and being prepared to cop a bit of flak along the way. Quobbas and Hanalei fins are both next level and worth exploring more.

Then you look at Derek Hynd who's been riding finless boards for decades - just totally abandoned fins altogether and the dude absolutely rips! Draws the sickest lines and looks like nobody else. That's the schizzle m'nizzle.

Cheers on the new board man! Yep, I was reading your posts eagerly, and I reckon the Revo will easily do the job up here as well.

I'll send some photos of the Revo when it arrives. Stay well brus and get amongst it man!
