It's awesome to get in 2 hours before anyone will venture out into Sharkville.
Another perfect glass dawn today! Tiny but amazingly beautiful!

Mate, its a gift to be able to see the beauty around us, often when we least expect it.

Like on a winters day and you're not sure it is worth going out for a sup, then the wind drops and the waves come rolling in and a rainbow appears and if you're really lucky the dolphins drop by to say G'day Haven't seen any unicorns cantering down the beach, but you never know!

Happy Supping

Love the vibe on this vid Rick, music is inspired and matches the waves perfectly. I'm super jealous, those are some clean looking nuggets, they just need an extra foot or two.... We had some waves here on the weekend, but with the mix of voodo chop and a screaming rip, I fell off my Placid more than I have in a looooooong time.

Loved it! That board is on rollers, freaking a lot of fun on those clean runners. And what a beat on the crowd getting the early!
And what a crowd. I see we use the same tactic, wait slightly underneath and scoop up the misses.

Nice vid Mr Creek, enjoyed the footage and was surprised at how well the placid performed in such little swell. I thought with the extra rocker and large nose area the placid would be a bit of a dog in small waves... is this the got to board now??? Or are yous till on the Kanga???
Im loving the 9' casey revolution which has become the go to in the quiver...

Thanks J, early is empty because of the Great Whites.... people believe that it is safer at 8am than Sunrise. I'm ok with that

Normally I am a set surfer.... not a wave count surfer. I want quality, not quantity, so I sit outside on a line-up spot that will catch the bigger sets.
When it gets crowded, I let them have the sets and take the inside slot, to stay away from the madness

Thanks Dave... I intentionally select weaker waves for some of the video, to show exactly how well the Placid surfs even at a low volume.
My 8'10 at 135 L puts my "Guild factor" at 1.26 which is fairly low... and yet it easily surfs weak and un-breaking sections.

My Go-To board(s)
I seriously don't have a favorite... they are all very good boards and every one one speaks to me, when the conditions fit.

9'6 Kanga cuz we have a skillion Great Whites and the Kanga surfs amazingly well for such a big, stable board
(I am ordering a 9'0 to compare how it rides in a smaller size)
8'10 Placid cuz it's easy stability and fun in everything
8'11 SP25 when I want stability and more speed/performance.
12' Point Break when it's small and funky
9'0 Casey Flow 2.0 when it's clean, because I find it way more work than the 8'10 Placid.... and I don't want to be in the water a lot around here.

9'2 Wedge is coming back in the mix... it is such a good board, but the highly technical aspect of it is always a challenge.
Fastest board I have ever surfed! I'd love to try the 8'8 for clean days.
It makes me surf better because the shape demands it.... it is totally frustrating if I put in a weak effort.

9'4 Creek is always in the van, but I have so much footage of it, it rarely gets the call.

Here's the "active" quiver that lives in my van all the time... this SUPster ordered a 9'6 Kanga after comparing my fleet.

I swear, every day I see stuff that warms me!
Sometimes just stop on a paddle outing and stand in awe of what nature provides.

Looks like some fun waves there! The Placid is a good bet in those conditions.

nice video creek. Wish I was there. Did you guys get any Henri swell? It was pretty decent in Rockaways, although the day of I stayed away.

Thanks Sean,
Days around it we just got some 2-3 normal summer swell,
Day of we got onshore lumps, but then we didn't get wind and rain either...
pretty much a normal day here when you were getting whacked, so I'll take that trade!

Believe it or not, we didn't get whacked either. Day before had some nice size, but direct on the beach so alot of closeouts. I heard that the day or was fun in the early morning, and didn't look at all sloppy like I've seen when tropical storms come in the past. Its like the wind completely missed us. Lots of rain though. Record amount of rain in Brooklyn actually.

Question for you Rick, as the New England Sunova pro rider. Starboard has done a neat trick on their new pro board which ticks off my list of boards to look at. Pro shape and performance, 120 liters, 8' long to get me on the tail kicker, quad and thruster options. The only other tick box that it doesn't check is that it isn't a Sunova (I love Sunova). Is there a Sunova that you think lives in the same company as that board? Should I think about a custom?
PS, I ride a Steeze at 8'10" 125 liters 200 lbs and am ready to progress, as soon as my bank account allows me...

feel free to quote me on a new post, as I think this is something alot of guys my weight and skill level are looking for.

Coming from an 8'10 x 30 Steeze, I don't think it is necessary to go that short to get huge upgrade in performance.
About the numbers on the board you mention:
I know from my 9'5 Wedge, that when you pack huge volume into a board, it gets corky and unstable.
My 9'5 x 33 at 180 liters was the hardest board I owned... super corky and tippy, even at 33 wide.
I sold it to a young savant that loves huge boards and he kills it!
I got the 9'2 x 32 at 167 and it is SO much easier
Bottom line... sometimes volume works against you.

Boards in the Sunova and GenRation lines that are close to your target numbers are:
SP25
8'2 x 29.5 at 115 L
Very stable groveler for small to medium waves that has wins on the APP Pro tour.
I think I surf my 8'11 best of all my boards
Fast and snappy
Heck, I think you would get all the performance you need, along with comfort out of the SP25 8'5 x 30.5 at 126 L

SP25

Wedge
8'2 x 28.5 at 118 L

A very sick, super fast board that needs to be under the feet of an advanced SUP surfer.
"S" Rails put them underwater while the deck remains dry
at 107 kg, I have a 9'2 x 32 at 167 but think I would be ok on 8'8 x 30 at 141 L
With the Wedge it is about more than numbers... a real conversation is needed to nail the right size.

IMO, this board should be ridden at the smallest size you can handle... but you better have great balance skills.
I've had a Wedge for almost 2 years and I am still trying to master it.... a very advanced board with amazing abilities.

Now that would be a blast on my Steeze 10, the perfect morning....argh....looking forward to the winter storms here in Vancouver and making a dash to Tofino without all the summer crowds.

hmmm they both look great. The thing that kills me about the genration is that you have to buy the fins and pad separately. Adds alot to the price for sure, getting it up to the starboard prices. Wedge looks interesting, but seeing how NorthJerseySurfer uses it for only perfect waves, I think the SP25 would make sense. We will have to see about my bank account in the spring, and maybe I can go and borrow his 8'2" wedge to see how hard it is to surf...

Either way, enjoy the fall waves! and keep the videos flowing.

Sean,
I have a buddy that was selling his almost unused 8'2 Wedge for 1,000 plus shipping ( SoCal)
He's too old and it's too small for him, so he ordered a bigger one.
That's almost as cheap as a demo... email me if interested. Or just call
