Does anyone have experience with Smik's mini (9ft range) of the Style Lord?
Seems to have slipped in under the radar but looks good on paper.
Hey Scott, what are the differences between it and the comparable length hipster twin longboard including rocker?
Which would be the more versatile all round board?
Hey Gambler I was lucky enough to ride Scotty's mini Style Lord at Woolamai on the day of his Smik video. I ride both short surf SUPs around 8' and a 10'. I found the mini Style Lord to be a great mid range board. Super user friendly stability wise and great performance to throw around in turns but still got the Longboard aspect of glide through flat sections and nose riding ability. I definitely finished that session wanting one. It would be a great all rounder, travelling type board. I'd be confident to ride this board and have loads of fun in most conditions.

Sounds perfect, I found 10's a bit big for me, but this seems the goods. I have a 9.2 Sunova Steeze and would love to compare the two side by side. Looking for another board that the missus can also ride. She's a pretty accomplished surfer.

Float between Noosa and Gold Coast. I've thought about the hipster twin but the classic shape of the Style Lord appealed to me,
I remember that you have had a Sunova or two, and are now riding Smiks. What's the difference? I've ridden quite a few Sunovas but never a Smik.

How did you find the 8'3 vs the 9'2?
Nugdam two different boards I liked the 9-2 longboard but 28 width was a challenge ,so I went 8-3 -31 thinking smaller /wider would work ,only 3 liters difference and a totally different board ,didn't like the extra curve and it felt to floaty,for me.The twin fin concept is definitely valid but I don't seem compatible with it.PS Scotty has been really helpful throughout the whole process,I am currently on the mini style lord a definite alternative for us old school 2+1 forward fin placement/surfing stance dinosaurs good luck with your decision

I'm in the market for a new SUP but it's so hard to get a demo on the Smiks, esp. when you live in paradise but a long way from any major centre. I'm thinking of a 10' x 32 Style lord but I'd have to demo in case it's too corky for me. [5'10" and 70kg, and at 72 yrs this might be my last SUP investment] I welcome any comments on the Style lord or anything else that might be suitable.

For 70kg the 32 would be pretty wide. I ride a 10 x 29 smik at 95kg its super stable. I would look at the 30 wide if you wanted comfort

I have a 10x30 fanatic stylemaster (2017 I think) I'm 6' @ 79kgs 55yrs. Intermediate.
I love this board for its old school style. Rails are really nice, they are thin and help with stability as just sit under water.
The SMIK 9'2 x 29 is a lot less stable (imo) rails are more fuller. On the wave the smik comes alive, a beautiful board to ride, can really work it. I choose to take smik out first to practise with and the joy of the ride. The stylemaster is an easy board to ride, which is great in challenging conditions.
Both excellent boards, and just my thoughts on a couple of long boards I ride.

10x32 will be a handful at 72kg and may in fact be more difficult to balance in rough conditions due to corkiness. I am 110kg and 10x29 feels just right. As Nugdam said, look at something around 29-30 wide and may be a little bit shorter but for sure lower volume. The board sitting deeper in water will be more resilient to chop and wind.

Firstly Jimbo 72 and still out there the mini lord is29 wide 120 liters ,im 66 yo -75 kg the mini lords imo are a touch unstable due to the heavy forward vee however the vee is integral to the design when surfing,nugdam and big z are on the money imo 10-30 style lord would be a very stable and loose to ride for you,as the squash tail on the 10-30 would hell with stability as well.

I'm keen on these but a little undecided as to which width, narrow performs better, but at the price of stability. 3 options available ??

Even at there narrowest they are doable/ compromise because of the way they surf the 30 wide imo would be gold.Scotty could have named this model the Ali floats like a butterfly stings like a bee.
Justaddwater, ta for the info. I've learnt that I'll have to demo my next purchase and the Smiks are hard to find as demos. But I really appreciate all the advice from all on this site.

Firstly I'd like to say that yes, the stock fins are great. And in more powerful waves that's all I use.
But I also have gone from the super expensive habit of changing out boards every few months, to surfing one exclusively since Easter. As a financial necessity, and also a bit of an experiment.
So for me when the waves aren't so great, which is quite often, I use the C Drives. Fun, drivey, easily slip through to the next section at speed, and weirdly easy to manoeuvre the board from the front with subtle movements. I have a twin set up of these on the way, pretty excited about that.
On the slightly bigger days I go for the AP's. I find them slightly more flexible than the stock, a little more flow when trying to milk everything out of a wave.
And finally when it gets real, I turn to the stock fins. It's pretty obvious Scotty has done his R and D on these, they just work with this tail. Big drive, good flex for a strong fin, nice for cutbacks and big bottom turns.
And that's where I'm at.
And even though I've been enjoying the hell out of this board, I will do a hipster twin "shorty" one day.
