That's niiiiice !!

Tell is what it's like in the Surf

I bought a 7'6 Shroom the other week, sold my 8'3 to a friend. Not had the small one out yet other than paddle it in flat water to understand the balance points on it, and do some tail spins
Let you know soon what it's like

Mate these little shrooms just glide into waves and turns are snappy and fun . It doesn't take long to get your balance on these boards , I've only rode in 2ft max waves . I know it's hey say it's a mush board but it loves clean faces too . They are a little harder to spin around compared to pin tail boards but you adjust your feet and get past it. I've had no problems on this board I've adapted to it real easy so that's a credit to Burt's design his nailed it . You will see just take it easy get used it and enjoy the way it surfs . I swapped boards with a guy on Sunova style the other day he said great feeling board said it would be great on some really 2 ft plus waves too . Mine paddles straight into waves compared to my flow which tends to spin a bit until I adjust my paddle strokes . What has amazed me is how you just turn and paddle and the shroom gets its own speed and finds the wave no problem drops in nice and smooth setting you up for what ever you want too do on the wave
cruise or turns . And paddles through the wash no problem the nose I just press down and paddle through the wash.

Enjoy buddy fun board let me know what you think of the 7,6 ??

Haydo how does your friend compare it to the Sunova Style for getting into waves ? Shroom seems more versatile on our break here, but I would love to add a Style to the quiver one day. The Shroom and Style seem at alternate ends of the equation but they actually have similarities in use for small waves

Hey Gboots I caught some waves on the style great feeling board 29 inch wide 9,6 has a lot more glide into the waves
and a rolled deck low rails so you get on rail really easy . Nice feeling board surfs great a bit less stable but still surfed un real on the shroom with wide tail you just have to move your back foot from rail to rail only slightly just a different way to surf but still fun and good feel . I'd like a style or acid one day but how many boards do I own lol ??

A 9'6 Style would be perfect . Better volume ratio too

I think it was 5 weeks when it finally started part of that was design and getting my colors the way I wanted
but Sunova send you plans to check
i I I think ?? they charge $200 for custom colors and another $200 for changes to size , but if your happy with sizes and just want to custom colors I think $200 extra but check with the board shops

Well I love my little one. The didn't get on with the 8'3 because to me it felt big and stiff. I did try it out with the rear fins removed and it became skaty but no good for drive through the mush.
The 7'6 I have is much much nicer. Proper flicky and slashy with plenty of drive through the mush and small stuff. Biggest wave I've had it out in is shoulder sucky and it didn't really like the hollow sections much.. much happier with the belly bump waves that are a little slower, then it's just a huge amount of fun.
It'll happily work your technique into shape, you'll soon start to find the limits then forget them and carry on.
For some reason the Shrooms seem to have been forgotten in Berts range, yet I think for the European mush surf we get they're ideal.

Oh, the 8'3 is a big board... you need to be at least 95kg to get it to move around, I'm 78kg and really should have gone for the 7'6 in the first place.. sold the 8'3 to a mate who loves it..

The world needs more Shrooms

Yeah I agree it really depends on the waves you ride but the shroom loves waves up to head high , I've had some great surfs picks up speed so easy and You can definitely get your turns going . The other week end I took a mate out
he was riding my 8,5 flow he was going pretty good then swapped on the 7,9 Shroom caught 2 waves and said this is the board he likes best and wouldn't stop raving bout it lol . He said he didn't really like the flow . Definitely wouldn't say it's just a mush board just a bonus that it eats mush . If I was surfing perfect waves I'd ride a acid . We'll have to tell the world how good shrooms are for beach breaks ??

Agree, it does get a lot of attention at the beach. Mostly because mines naked balsa, it sort of sticks out amongst the PopOuts..
I've paired mine with an 8'7 Flow, which again is fabulous.
I think I've got conditions covered where I am...
I do like your custom colours ..

Love your custom graphics .
With that big concave what's it like when you walk up the nose ?
Do you walk the whole board when you chase lump n bump mashup ?
Cheers

Hey buddy it's a very stable board even when I move up too push nose down on full waves or offshore winds
but generally I don't need to put your self in the right position and couple of paddles and it picks up speed to get on the wave . That's what the big concave helps with to get the board to accelerate fast in smaller to medium waves . Truely a lot of thought has gone into the shroom Sup yes it's different but gee it works well can't wait to get out soon and get more out of mine .

My wonderful Shroom 8.7, bought last year, is becoming too big for me.
I'm undecided between an Shroom 8.3 and an the new Hyper Nut 7.10.
After after long reflections, probably the Shroom 8.3, in the late spring, will be the choice.
I'm not sure but I think that HN is a little bit more unstable than Shroom and I hate drop in the water.
The Sunova are so beautiful and so well built that I can't do without. And the Shroom is
pure fun in the most of my sea conditions.
I would ask to everyone, especially to the mith STC, that have well tried the downsizing of the Shroom,
to describe what kind of sensation I can feel... Its only 4 inch but the difference seems really great.
In particular is an 8.3 a little bit faster and lighter than an 8.7 and more suitable for a little bigger waves?

Well I'd say it's going to surf much more snappy, turning will be heaps easier than 8,7 shrooms are stable but expect a little adjust ment time
maybe even try 8 foot option ?

Hi Linkus

I was 107 kg last time I rode both 8'3 & 8'7 Shrooms
The 8'3 was easy for me in trunks.... never tried it in full wetsuit gear, cuz I knew it would be difficult.

The 8'7 was always too big for me.
It surfed fine, but felt huge..... big difference from the 8'3

The 8'3 is very short for my size, but I never really struggle with it....
the shape gave me enough surface area for stability even at a "weight to volume" ratio of 1.14

In waves over 4' I found I had to scrub off speed before I threw a turn.
The Shroom has a speed "comfort zone'.... when you go over that, it will resist a turn because of the wide tail.
It is very fast on small or weak waves and loves to snap up the face.... just dial it back if surfing bigger than shoulder high.

The 8'3 is much snappier than the 8'7

Here are some vids of me riding the 8'3 at 107 kg
shorty that shows how easy it turns

this one shows details of how the 8'3 floated me at 107 kg and my 1st sessions on it

Would a slightly longer Flow be more suitable in those types of waves ? Say an 8'4 or 8'7 instead of an 8'0 or 8'3 Shroom ? Easier to turn from middle and less width (but enough ) at the back ?

Didn't you say at one time, that using smaller fins made the 8/7 Shroom better? Still, much less snappy than an 8/3?

How about reducing fin size for bigger waves to turn at higher speeds?

I hated the stock fins that come with the Shroom.
I undestand Berts reasoning behind the fins, but they didn't compute with me.... way too sticky.
Who knows, maybe those fins would work better in larger surf... never tried it.

Smaller fins in bigger waves would't work for me because the tail width is my issue.
When I was dropping down a steep head high wave, I was going so fast that the tail was fighting back, till I scrubbed off enough speed for a carving turn.

The deck and bottom concave's work together to give amazing rail bite on a turn when at the right speed.

I will never use the stock fins on the Shroom.....
The fins and I battled it out... the fins won.
so I replaced them.
I don't even know where they are anymore.

Berts understands fins, I only use them
He explained to me how the trailing tip of the fins would do something or other, but I wasn't feeling it.

I use my 8'3 Shroom in it's intended conditions and love it with smaller, more traditional rake fins.
That's the extent of my scientific understanding

like everyone says you need to step back and drive your turns enjoy the Shroom !!
