Thanks Rick, awesome review. Just when I'd locked in on getting a 12' Search there's another option.

I'm interested in the conditions you'd take the Point Break out in versus a smaller surf SUP or your 14' Search.

Cheers Mark

Hi Mark,

With regards to the 14' Search.... it is now pretty much my flat-water board only.
Totally awesome, and still my clear favorite board for a long paddle session.
But I probably won't surf it anymore.... the Point Break is in a totally different league when it comes to riding waves.
I have never surfed or paddled the 12' Search, so I can't comment as to that length.

The more I surf the Point Break, the more it feels like a daily driver.
I have been totally impressed by the way it rides in all the conditions I have ridden it.
I have had it in small weak waves and head high with some bigger sets.... it was perfect in everything so far.
If it gets more than OH, I will ride it at points or reefs that have dependable shape.... and see what the potential is for this 12'er.

In performance waves, I will still reach for my quiver of shorter boards, but for now, I am really loving the fresh feel of the new ride!
There is something fine to be said for riding the glide.... especially if it carves around like this beauty!

My month long "time out" for cataract surgery, is coming to a close and I can't wait to get on my PB and Creeks again.
I took my first flat-water paddle on the Point Break and was impressed with how well it paddled.... not as good as the 14' Search, but really a respectable paddler.... even set-up as a thruster with 3 smaller fins.

Hopefully I'll get some more footage soon..... I am really looking forward to sharing a session with RbGar, and film him on the beautiful flagship Point Break!
All of the Point Breaks made for the US have sold out in only 2 weeks.

Meanwhile..... RbGar hired me on to crew for him on a Yacht delivery.
The big man knows his way around the ocean!

Looks pretty wide for a 12 foot board.....a bit starboard whoppery?

That's like comparing Bruce Jenner to Cindy Crawford, ones just wrong and other is right

just a first impression on watching initial video.......kind of looked like an overly wide board....bouncing along like a starboard whopper.....on the other hand if I saw someone riding it at Mavericks I would be suitably impressed....but that just soft waves?

I think I will bite on this one Griz! I have owned a whopper and 3 Sunova boards. If I was comparing these two boards and using cars as an example from my point of view the custom 12 foot Sunova would be a Tesla S, high tech, quick, fast, stable, safe at high speed, and beautiful to look at. The whopper would be a Chevy Suburban, large, out of date, slow and a clear and present danger at high speed. I got rid of my whopper because I had the distinct impression that it was going to kill me when I took it out in shoulder high waves.

Cheers

Bob

Bites are welcome.......just think for a 12'6 high performance surf sup it should be narrower and looking more like a 12'6 big wave gun......rather than the whopper thing. Have no strong feelings either way

There are plenty of other options out there, if you want a "big wave gun" shape.
The Point Break was designed for waves that we actually ride.

Gizz, you have a keen eye..... the resemblance is uncanny!

Comparing Point Break to Whopper is pushing it. I agree.

But he has a point. 12'6 x 32 wave board for small, medium waves is a niche board. It is not a gun so you will not take it in big, powerful waves. And for most intermediate riders, 9'6 x 30 or so is as big as you need to to catch knee high waves and comfortably paddle over a mile or more to get to remote point and reef breaks.

Hey STC,

Have you heard if Sunova are planning on bringing out additional sizes of this board? A 11' x 31" would be cool.

Hi Mark,
The Point Break is 12' size only. They will make an 11' version for you for an additional fee of 10%
I think you would be surprised at how loose and short, the 12'er feels.

I am at this exact moment, making a video for my personal curiosity, that compares big old me surfing the 12' x 32" Point Break vs young guys surfing several narrower boards that are say they are superior because they are not 32" wide.
IMO, no contest... the Point Break is a clear winner. Turns cleaner, snappier.... it surfs like a shorter board, with all the benefits of 12'

I just came back from a fun surf on the pt break. RbGar - thanks for getting it developed!

As long as you are willing to move your feet a lot, it is real fun. I was just in smaller (waist-shoulder high) off-shore, reef-break waves and had a ball!
