Hi all bit of a hybrid question
looking to add a board to the quiver that I can add a windsurfing sail when the breeze is about and give another dimension to the family's day on the water.
appreciate any board suggestions and sail if anyone has done it?
I'm in Perth (freo) so the southerly Doctors always in at some stage of the day.
heaviest rider will be 75kg.
thanks heaps
YES , starboard, Naish and a few others offer mast tracks in ranges. Windsurfing got me into SUPping and back into the surf. An LT offers a good sailing experience but as a SUP not so. It's just too heavy. Perfect as a windsurfer that you can paddle. A wave SUP works really well as a light wind wave board when it's too windy to SUP. Work out what and when you want to use it . Good luck
Same weight, I use my 150 liter Fanatic Fly for SUP, windup, surf, and wingsup.
Just used bigger main fin for wind sports.
Fly is just over 10.2 kgs., so some care is needed and not nearly as durable as 15 kg boards.
Any SUP with a mast base, but the ones that just have one brass insert can be weak - make sure the thread is cleaned of salt and sand, else you can spin the insert in the board real easy. In that sense, getting an old SUP and fitting a mast track is probably better (and not costly)
For sails, go to the WA part of the windsurfing forums and look at the free stuff. You will want about a 4m to 5m wave sail and will find such easily enough. Probably a boom and base too. If you get a free mast base, change the rubber part in the joint. Masts have to match the sail so might cost you a few bucks but you should be able to put together a full rig for $300 or so
As an example, the first sail here (blue Arrows Impact, gone now, but would be ideal):
