Hi,
I am looking for some advice. I want to purchase a sup to do some training out on the ocean.
I weigh about 100kg and live at the beach. I surf a lot when there are waves but on calmer or small chop days I am looking to do some training on a Sup.
Basically from home I would like a board that I can punch upwind for a few km then turn around and head downwind back to home.
Generally the sea around my area is a little bit choppy but I wouldn't be looking at anything too challenging. Just on small wave days and perhaps with a little bit of wind. When there's bigger surf I will go surfing..
Unfortunately I think I have to go for an I-Sup due to storage issues. At a pinch I could try to work something out with a hard board, I am not really sure on this point, I just watched a video on YouTube that basically said an I-Sup is not going to cut it for doing the punch upwind and come back downwind thing that I am thinking about. But other videos say the more expensive I-Sups are ok.
Any advice on what I should be looking for (type of Sup/I-Sup), length, width, brand etc?
I am pretty open on price. I guess I am thinking about 1000 bucks but if I have to pay more for something worthwhile I will do it. Hopefully I don't have to though.
Many thanks in advance for any helpful comments......

A 14' race board really is the best thing for training. depending on your balance, all board brands have multiple widths. i personally use a 14' x 24" Sunova All-round Faast, they also have a 25.5" and 27" wide
Forget an iSUP for either upwind or downwind. They stink at both (and own three so I should know!). In fact, forget iSUPs for ocean paddling altogether. They bounce and flex and stick and are generally hard work unless you are talking 10 knots or less.
Maybe a 2-piece SUNOVA race board?
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone, I ended up buying my first SUP board and I gave up on the idea of an iSUP. (Again, I really appreciate the people who posted here and wrote to me directly for telling me not to get one). The board I got is a bit basic, being 12"6' but I got a Hardboard in the end. I have been out three times on it now and loving it !!!
