I'm currently costing a trip to North America next year and was wondering if anyone had knowledge on associated costs and the the best freight forwarder to use to get a 14 footer from the east coast of Australia (Newcastle/Sydney). I am also making enquiries about hiring, however am not sure I will be able to get anything at this stage. Any advice would be much appreciated.
I would imagine you'd almost be better off either buying a two piece 14ft board and taking it as luggage or buying one there.
If intent on shipping I'd contact airlines freight departments directly as I've had success with them previously with boards and motorbikes.
As an example I freighted two sups bound together (9ft and 8'6) from Paris to Perth this year for around 1900 using a shipping company and was quoted around $600 to ship them directly with Qatar from Male to Perth.

Just take it with you, heaps if airlines still take boards.
We just flew to hood river from Brisbane with Virgin to LA and the Alaska airlines to Portland cost was $35US.
We have done this every year, no need for a 2 piece board or anything crazy just research the airline and the plane and it works no worries.
