I am normally a Dan supporter, but this is ridiculous... Is it really that hard to manage a quarantine hotel? Do the hotels have to be in the city? Can't they test and quarantine people before they leave? Do we have to let them back into the country at all? Can they employ dedicated professionals, pay them properly, and keep them in quarantine too?

There, I've ranted. I feel slightly better. Slightly...

Supposedly 29 flights went through terminal 4 at Melb Airport whilst the staff member at Brunetti's cafe was contagious. That's why they are s_itting themselves

A bit harsh blaming a world wide pandemic on one man. There has been outbreaks in almost every state in Australia resulting in lock downs of one form of another. Australia has one of the best records in the world dealing with it. Best just to suck it up, stay positive and make the most of it.

Personally I'm not blaming the Victorian premier for the worlds pandemic, in fact I'd be surprised if anyone was. I do however hold him accountable for Victoria's plight. He said after the last quarantine outbreak " we have learned valuable things and this won't happen again " hey Mr premier why don't you do us all a favour and ask NSW health how they do it. There's much more to say about his cover ups and lies but I think most know about that and those that defend him are a lost cause.

Just because someone has a different opinion than you, mick, doesn't mean they are a "lost cause" it just means they have a different opinion than you.

Exactly, especially considering quarantine is a Federal Government responsibility. Of course Scomo, being the marketing guru he is, doesn't want any negative PR from INEVITABLE outbreaks from hotel quarantine.

Its interesting if someone expresses a different opinion, they seem to be shut down pretty quickly
Whatever political party you support, stuff ups are stuff ups and incompetence is incompetence......
On a happier note i bought a wing ding and foil for the last lockdown and it came in handy today for a bit of vitamin Sea

Mick,
Im presently in southern Tassie, where the locals wouldn't know a face mask if they tripped over one, so I have escaped this lockdown (at least for the moment). But given that they say the UK variant is up to 70% more infectious and someone in a quarantine hotel was using a nebuliser - which basically atomises the virus - how is that Dan's fault?
Hopefully they get this under control (and before I get back). But I would like to ask the question of the Federal government - where are the vaccines? That's gotta be the focus!

It is easy for Scomo and the LNP to sit back and let the state Premiers take all the heat, but the Feds control the borders and the vaccine rollout.
If they really want to eliminate the virus, they could shut the borders (harsh as it may be) for 2 or 3 months while they vaccinate the vast majority of the population.

Ross, enjoy tassie while you can and at least you can.
I was a bit surprised to see 70% more infectious so I had a bit of a look at several different sources of info. Some did say between 50-70%
and some as low as 11.4-14% then I came across the following article.

As far as the bloke using the nebuliser goes, it sounds like (depending on who you believe) he asked permission, so they did know about it.
I'm not sure who else to blame considering he's in charge, well I think he is.

Last I saw, border security is a Federal responsibility... So why the F**K is Quarantine a state responsibility?

Scotty from Marketing should now be call Scot Free because he's got off lightly by shifting it to the states.

Am I political? No... I think they all suck! Don't vote... It only encourages them.

In the end, the hotel quarantine process is fundamentally flawed and we've seen outbreaks in multiple states (SA, WA, QLD, Vic).

Who came up with the idea to stick a bunch of potential positive cases into a building that has no opening windows and a corridor that doesn't have proper airflow (like every damn hotel I've ever stayed in...)? And then you add local staff who enter and leave the building daily and go back to their families. It's an outbreak waiting to happen.

A better option would be to utilise the Motels around the regional areas.. Each room opens onto an outdoor area... No ducted heating or cooling... Get security and all the attendant stuff you need to stay locally on swings similar to FIFO (Say 3 weeks on, 2 weeks isolation, 3 weeks off). Get it out of the cities and give the regions an income boost.

This is the model that's working well in NT...

Agree with everything you say Mahanumah - except the not voting comment. Everyone's right to vote has been, historically, a hard-won issue and in my humble opinion should not be frittered away, even if you don't like any of 'em.
And Mick, sure there have been stuff-ups by the Vic government - but the virus has escaped quarantine in NSW, Qld, SA, WA and now the UK variant is also out in NZ. Do we blame Dan for all of this?

In short no, given the figures and the extreme measures out of desperation, it's hard not to hold his government to account. It's easy for those such as government workers who are still working or receiving their pay packets but for those who have lost their homes or businesses there is no reconciling.

Ahhh.... I was hoping that the "Don't vote... It only encourages them" statement would be taken in the lighthearted context it was intended.

I agree wholeheartedly that the right to vote (and Australia's compulsory voting system) is vitally important and a great way to ensure we don't see the farce that happens in the USA with voter deregistering, court challenges and even the Orange one claiming he won against all evidence.

Yes I have a political preference but I don't see any politician delivering exactly what I want so it becomes a choice of the lesser of the evils when deciding who I vote for.

As a Victorian, I think the Vic Government did a pretty good job up until this latest escape... this one just shows that somewhere in the process there's people who haven't learned from the previous mistakes. But at the same time I still think Dan Andrews and his team have done a far better job than we would ever see from Michael O'Brien. That guy couldn't organise a root in a brothel...

On a lighthearted note:

A paraphrase from which legendary movie:
"I see politics in Australia as kind of like Fire and Ice. And I see myself in the middle kind of like lukewarm water..."

Or from another TV series:
"We're not sitting on the fence... We're more like trying to burn it down..."
