Number 1 mystery.
Where is the dogman? Is he still alive? Does he still surf? Deep, you need to pull your finger out and invest into the future.....the future of 8 foot boards, ones that, to be honest, I am never going to buy unless they're on the second hand market, even though they are great. Is everyone else in this category?
Number 2 mystery.
Then there's Khai De Aboitz. 4 world titles on the kiteboard and he has left us for dead. Get on his instagram account and hassle him for another video. Tell him the sport that put him on the map is now in need. If all 7 of us send him a message maybe he will spend the 2 weeks needed to make this video so that 6 of us can buy his boards and he can recoup all of his losses with a 10% return on his initial investment. Mathias too!!!!! He needs to be emailed as well. Send an email asking him to drop another 10k to make this video. Tell him selling racing boards is not the way to go....instead go for a low return on a massive investment by organising a trip for Khai to go to whatever the **** name they can use to replace Minnie Water, like all the other videos.
Lastly, jackson close.
The deep video they dropped of him a few years back was him on 3 waves at snapper. 3 waves!!!! 3 waves and a whole video!!!!!! Must have hired Martin Scorsese for that one. Martin Scorsese of the sup world anyway.
Seriously, next time he is out at the world's longest most crowded point break, ripping on his minimal, doing lap after lap, get him to jump on the sup for one lap, then there's another 3 waves that can be milked into a video for all of us to all to watch on repeat.
Lastly, seriously, maybe we should drop 20$ each to get the dogman to do a other soloshot clip on YouTube? If that doesn't entice him out of retirement (even though rick weeks isnt retired, and is still one of the biggest icons of the sport in his 70's) I might book a 2 weeks stay at miniwater and start claiming I own the point, dropping in on people until wolfie comes out of his cave. Someone needs to take a selfie stick there and film a documentary, call it.... searching for sugarman......error I mean dogman.

That was funny, and yes, I'm totally ready for people to make some new vids that capture the spirit of SUP surfing as it should be, and give us something totally unrealistic to live up to!!!

But until then, I just watch hemflick that appears to be re-released in shorter videos...

I guess that if you want more videos,... get your camcorder or drone or waterproof housing and go film people!

People demanding videos do not realize that to have good videos (not gopros...), you must have somebody filming them.
For instance, in my case, I seldom do videos anymore because my camerawoman took up golfing... and has no more "free" time :-)

Seriously, if you want to find SUP videos, you must "train" youtube into providing SUP videos. The best way to do it is to create a youtube account that you will dedicate to SUP surfing videos. Logged in this account, click on all the known SUP surf videos you can find to "train" the matching algorithm (your favorite ones, APP world tour ones, ...), and soon youtube will suggest you new SUP surfing videos.

And on the opposite, when you are indulging in the guilty pleasure of looking at trash or clickbait vids, do it on a "trash" account to avoid "polluting" your main account.

And for managing easily multiple accounts, the "Containers" of Firefox is an invaluable tool:
www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001584.htm

PS: I wonder if one of the problem is the over-editing of videos. As brands and riders become more professional, they tend to hire professional photographers, who want to make "professional" videos... that I find not engaging as over-edited, like bad movie directors use plenty of cuts instead of properly choreographing a scene. Videos like the Dogman ones stay in my memory because you see the whole ride and can feel "being there". Whereas many modern videos just do not connect with the viewer. And alas, new Gong ones often feel this way now that they have a professional movie editor... I miss their older ones where you could see the whole ride.

Yeah I like seeing people select and paddle for waves, etc. love watching the raw WSL heats for this reason. Hard to find decent SUP heats online

They've all started foiling...sup surfing is pretty niche now.I don't see numbers growing where I am..not that I am complaining. There's still a market but I don't think it is a growing/booming one..not in the UK anyway that I see. There's always more folk out in the warmer months but the numbers don't seem to stick throughout the winter. Just a few keeping it going.

Bernd Roediger has been very active posting videos: www.instagram.com/bernd_roediger/ Sometimes also on the APP World Tour page: www.instagram.com/appworldtour/

And you have tons of brazilians posting incredible videos, but most of them are on sub 7' boards

Seriously funny post made my day! The boom days of sup surfing are long gone so no big $$$ videos to fuel the stoke.

Shortboard sup'ing is a lot more interesting to watch than contemporary shortboard surfing.
I'd rather watch, in this particular order:
1. Old Longboarding footage
2. Modern Longboarding
3. Shortboard sup'ing
4. Longboard sup'ing
5. Windsurfing on waves
6. Kiting on waves
7. Paddle-in big wave surfing
8. Tow-in big wave surfing
9. Videos of giant waves eating container ships
10. Sharks vs everything videos
11. The chickens in the backyard
12. The pointless last two Ashes tests
13. Paint dry
14. .....etc

... i should say 'competition' surfing, instead of 'contemporary'.
It certainly does make for a different viewing experience when its being made into a competition.

Where would you put planking? I'd put that before windsurfing

Yep, great list FinsUp!
I'd also include (in no particular order):
1. any and all Bruce Brown movies;
2. any footage of Greenough on either a mat or kneelo;
3. any footage of Derek Hynd finless;
4. any footage of Mason Ho; and
5. any Coen Brothers movie as long as it's The Big Lebowski.

(Special mention would have to include any footage of Andy Irons going left anywhere in Indo).

Just a reminder that life has been hard for some these last couple years.
Making video's isn't always a priority when you have people to feed.

Also, professional surf photographers/videographers where already not cheap before covid. I use to pay $70 per hour. same guy now charges $250.

Cheapest I can find from a professional drone operator (not just someone who owns a drone) is $150 per hour. and then there's editing.

some big names are lucky enough to basically have film crews following them around.

On another note, big things coming from DEEP in 2022. Keep an eye on our socials and keep frothing.

Yeah, that's the part of the joke , I want the videos but it's simply not worth it for brands to invest in because they might get what, 10 guys buying the boards? Thing is though, the videos were amazing. Being serious now, how much do these videos cost to make?
If you blokes want to chip in an amount that would work for you, maybe we could chip in the rest each, and pay for the videos like we used to in the old days? If you got the dogman (8/10 foot boards) khai and Jackson close on a 20 minute video I'd be happy to purchase it behind a pay wall. Would this make enough coin for you blokes to seriously consider it?

If you don't want to do that, I'll have to do it myself. Here's what I'll do...ring Jackson Closes electrical business, pay his call out fee, tell him to meet me in the carpark at snapper, put a stick and paddleboard under his arms, point to the surf and say jobs out there mate, as many as you can in three hours and I'll pay your hourly rate. Then I'll stick my camera on him and make another clip. When he signs off on the job though, I'll put in a fine print, one that says he is now riding for us, Les's Paddleboarding Solutions, not Deep.

What do you think? Another board company might beat you to our offer..dont sit around all day in DEEP consideration, buy now before it's too late!

Life's been hard on us too, three years without a dogman clip. The humanity!

The latest blue planet video is nice, both from the level of the rider, and the fact that it features full rides, and especially a section at 0:23 where you see the exit from the waves and the paddling back... and that it is not easy to balance on these boards (a 7'4" x 23.5" x 66L here), even for pros :-)

Haha yeah I'm pretty sure I saw Zane Swietzer fall off his board a couple times paddling and it made me feel better about myself:) Also loved how the vid had the best in the world plus some extremely talented, but more relatable paddlers. Holy cow the guy on the JL board (stun gun or supertech?) took some EPIC wipeouts that woulda split me in half

Les71, locked out of old account. Seen someone riding a dogman at marley/Greenmount this morning. Board looked nice in the water. Turns out it was the phenoix himself, rising from the ashes. You would need a water housing when filming this guy on land, the power and spray in those 9 ft hacks would put the 2019 bushfires out, when doing them in 2021.

Was going to ask wolfie about making a 20 minute solo video but there were too many unridden secret smoking lefts to be kooked up on down the point.

Was this session part of your new video?
