What marvellous fishes they are, good BBQ as well !

Are you trolling lures when paddling? or cast bait drifting with the wind? Please Gizzie.

she woman who works at Tokomaru Bay cafe......has children......the big fish is a kingfish......top predator that eats smaller fish. Not a tuna. Would have liked to set it free.
I am cheating Kami........have a 100 metre longline with 25 hooks. You put it down.....you pull it up an hour later.
Kingfish you can only mostly catch by putting a live fish on a hook and letting it swim around until kingfish eats it. Too cruel for me. This one ate live fish that I had caught on my longline

I do a lot of trolling with lures.......mostly catch kahawai. Did have kingfish on line a few weeks back. Have just bought skipjack tuna lure.......they come in close to shore when water is warm
But sometimes is only a small window of opportunity to go fishing with a sup.......is days when surf too big to paddle your hooks and stuff out through surf (and you don't want to be rolling around in the shorebreak surrounded by hooks on the way back in).....better to hammer the really good non life threatening days

Nice fish Gizzie
Need to get a longline. Then go for troll and come back.
Was out sailing on cat and came across workup. Hooked kawaii, my reel exploded so hand lined but spat hook before i could get in boat. My brother trolls on his sup with hang line, he says he ties rubber band to get the length.
Small wave on reef this afternoon and there were so many fish. Its in marine reserve so only catching waves.

even a kahawai pretty exciting on light rod and line.......but if kingfish eats your kahawai lure on your "light rod and Line" is interesting situation. Used to do that USA "catfish jug fishing" thing. You have a few pool noodles chopped into segments as floats with wire coat hangers threaded through noodles to attach your line to. One noodle float.....one hook. You paddle off along the coastline dropping off a noodle or two. Then pick them up on your return trip. Noodles can be hard to rediscover though

Hey Emeboy - what size Creek is that you're riding? What's your weight?
Cracking swell here over the weekend, suited the SUPs on the open beaches (see them early, into them early, make the sections)
so good that I popped a hernia ! (Kept surfing Sunday and Monday of course)
Op tomorrow - then I'll be good to go on a Mentawais SB trip mid year

Hey mate,
I have the 9'1 @136ltrs.... At the time I was about 103kg but I was kicking myself I didn't go the 8'10. Both boards in the vid are the same liters. but the Creek feels 'floatier'. Had no problems on the 9'1 right from the get go... Its a great board in powerful surf.

Bugger about the hernia! I am working offshore in a no swell zone at the moment so am watching the epic east coast swell from afar wishing I was home!

I've spent the day watching it - one of those magical winter days. Air mid 20's, water low 20's. Zero or light offshore wind. Still some hangover swell

Classic pic STC, looks really pleasant!

I got back on the horse this morning, been a rough year with surfing so far.

A few injuries and board snapping have kept me off the SUP for large parts of the year, had a really quick metro beach sesh on a mates borrowed board - some fun banks around at the moment with a bit of punch.

Felt like a bit of a beginner again but geez I enjoyed being back on the SUP, totally forgot about the amazing view you get on a SUP when paddling into a wave and just how fun it is to ride them - I'm hooked all over again!

I mentioned it before but the SUP community are so generous, a mate lent me his board so I could get a wave this morning with no questions asked, will be shouting him a coffee over the weekend thats for sure!

Keep up the stoke gents!
