Found this old invitation to the Rip Curl Wave Classic, as it was pre-internet there is not much online and was wondering if anyone has pics or results from these events from the mid eighties. I think they were on each year from 1982 to 1986, but can't remember for sure.
Peter Cabrinha lower left (Hood/Mistral) and upper left (Gaastra/Mistral), chasing Mark Paul (Gaastra/Bombora) out at Point Danger, Torquay 1982, the powerhead v. the pinhead. Cabrinha won the heat, Robby Naish won the event in 1982. There was a video of the event played at the Perth boat show 1983 but no idea where it is now. I asked Rip Curl about it , the archivist had no idea. Someone might have it maybe Brendan Morgan might know if you know him.
Randy Naish left right Richard Whyte (using Alan Cadiz sail due to shredding his) Rip Curl 1983. (SailWind) Robby won again in 1983. Out the back is Robert Teritehau or Cort Larned with Bic sail. I will scan a few articles in due course.

I guess mine got lost in the mail??
I have this poster from 1985. Pic is Angus Chater in what looks like Diamond Head in the background
I entered in the 1986 event. 1986 was the last one held.
Thanks for the pics. Didn't take enough photos back then but it wasn't so easy when also competing in the event in the pre-smartphone days of 35mm camera .
i remember the video, music from Dire Straights, Telegraph Road.
Yes that is it- a great historical document of 1982 wavesailing. It had Fraser Black, Mark Paul, Robby Naish, Randy Naish, Peter Cabrinha, Phil Lynch, Brendan Morgan and others. Maybe someone can send it to Paul Van Bellen and he can digitise it for posterity. Maybe Rip Curl can re-start the event, would be very cool and invite the old stars for a re-match, kind of like the Noosa festival of surfing, would infact be a good candidate for IWT one day. Involving course racing and surf slalom would be tops as well.
From old nostalgic windsurf ads , I remember that Hifly ad , thinking , is that what awaits if I sail good enough ?
c, mon , someone please post that ad.
For old time sake !
