I just ordered a Garmin Fenix 5s for 50%. I had the option of that or the Garmin 935 (also 50% off). about $250 USD each
I didn't have much time to do research, so if its a dud let me know and I can return it. Ideally I would like to know speed in realtime, distance travelled and be able to produce a map of where I sailed.
PS: I have a few hours left to order the 935 if you think it is better
nope
the fenix will be fine
i use one for on the water feedback.
Thanks
Rebel have Fenix 6s on sale $599 - but i am tossing up between apple or 6s ?
i was going to go apple but 6s at this price seems pretty good ?

Buy a Garmin 245 Music for $289 from Rebel. It has double the datafield memory of a Fenix 6 or 6S and less than half the price.
I've got a Fenix 3 that is still going strong. It's much tougher and has much longer battery life than the Apple watch. I've had two problems with it.
The holes in the band that the clasp pin goes into broke. You don't lose the watch, it just gets a bit sloppy. Fixed with a $10 ebay band.
Salt can build up under the buttons and make them hard to push. I soaked it in warm water and that freed it up. After a session I tend to chuck my watch and sunglasses into warm soapy water for a soak.
I have tried the various apps but don't find them particularly useful. I just look at the tracks on the Garmin Connect web site, or load them into Google Earth or Ayvri or whatever.
The watch came with a "Boat" activity that worked pretty well. The images below are from that. I am yet to try the downloaded windsurf app
