Guys looking to give foiling ago. Are you still giving lessons. Currently windsurf at St George's Basin. TIA. Derrick

Hey Derrick, Kanahooka is a goto spot for many foilers on a range of BYO gear, but not a school with rental gear etc - great place to learn on N through to SW breeze (NW & W a bit too gusty)- if you can access your own kit, come along, everyone very helpful with tips
Give me a call, foiling is epic, 0425 857 068

Derick, there's 3-4 of us that will foil on the Basin whenever the conditions are good. I'm still learning but I'm bloody hooked regardless.

Launch from the southern end of Island Point Rd. The water is sheltered with a sandy bottom (after you clear the first few metres). Once you're in the deep, there's hardly any weed and the rest is with you.

Hope to see you down here mate.

Thanks Tony for intro to this sweet spot launch is pretty easy, like you said, potential for some marathon foil runs especially across to the ocean side on a good NE ...

MT out on slalom gear - I set him a luffing duel, so in a stunning triumph of talent he not only managed to climb upwind with me (4.7/Supercruiser), but snuck past to windward! Foilers know how high they point, compared to fins .... usually ...

That spots works ok in a NEerly ? Much wind shadow ? Better than Sanctuary Pt boat ramp ?

The boat ramp is too shallow and has weed till you get to the marker buoy(750m). It;s no good for foiling.

Timbat, my experience is that both spots are affected by wind shadows although in a true NE, the breeze at the boat ramp is much stronger.

We have had some luck launching off Palm beach which is just tucked behind the SP boat ramp. Only a short walk out past the weed and then you're in some nice clear water. The photo below shows my tracks from late September on the foil. I'm still learning so please ignore the stacks! The further you head north, the more of the land-effect you get. Ideally, head downwind from where I sailed and you should have some good solid breeze.

Island point Rd however is super flat and is my preference for foiling from if the wind is there. Amazingly, some days it will be very light compared to Sanctuary Point (only approx. 3km away). Car parks can be an issue at all spots in the height of summer holidays too. Locals have special passes that allow us to book spots days in advance.

Hope to see you here one day!
