Hi all,
I have moved to Lift foils a while back and riding the 150 Surf2 and more recently the 170 HA and loving them both.
I have found that I have moved them as far forward in the boxes on my prone board (4'6") as possible and feels like they could still be pushed further forward.
The rear of the boxes is about 11.5 cm from the rear of the board and the front of the boxes about 39 cm from the rear of the board. At the moment the rear screws on the mast base plate are about 21 cm from the rear of the board.
Keen for some feedback on how far from the rear of the board others are finding to be the sweet spot. Obviously there will be variation depending on types of waves, feel you like, bodyweight (I weight around 92kg), etc but am keen to see what suits most as I will be looking for a new board and want to make sure I can locate the foil where I need it.
Cheers
Longer boxes are the way to go for more adjustment. Sunova are now doing 14inch tracks and Amos are 16inch long tracks. Adds a bit extra weight but worth it for the tuning ability between different foils and rider weight. When I rode armstong I could never get it far enough forward. Haven't used Lift.

Adam was saying he runs most foils at 30cm or more from the tail, on his 4'3. I run the cabrinhas around 25cm on my 4'6.
The main tuning is to have the foot placement correct straight away after take off. But I also noticed that too far forward makes the foil feel very squirrely, and too far back tames the foil a lot, because you change the swing weight at the front (dave kalama talked about this), so you can tune the feel of the foil this way too.

Is that 25-30cm from the back of the board to the mast, or back of the tracks.
I think to start we should always talk about the same when speaking about box placement.
Me I like to say : back of the box to back of the tail (which means the further back you can put the base plate).
And I like to measure back of the mast to tail of the board.

Same, about 25cm for 1095 with unifoil I was more like 30cm
If your tracks don't quite give you enough travel forward you can add a shim to the fuselage under the front of the mast, this rotates the entire assembly and projects the lift further forward. I think a credit card thickness is prob equivalent to about another cm of mast track distance. Obviously this is a bit of a stop gap, better solution is to have track position correct for your foil system.
I don't think that the distance to the back of the board is relevant, what is relevant is the location of the boards centre of mass relative to the foils centre of lift. You can roughly balance it up but from there you need to dial in via trial and error :)
