Anyone tried the newer Naish Nalu 10' x 29" vs the older 10' x 28"? Looking to buy a floaty board for the wife but also..you know..use for myself occasionally. ;)

Hi mate, I have a 10x29 and love it, it will catch the smallest bump and only gets better the larger the waves are. I also have a Maddog 9x32 to compare, the Nalu really likes the water to be calm. Bumps and wind that the wider Maddog brushes of will have you on your toes waiting out the back. It's not bad just noticeable between the two. As for riding waves it's fast, the narrow tail has it turning easily and it a really fun board to surf. I like it as a quad, whereas I prefer the Maddog as a thruster.I weigh around 95 kg and find three to four hours surfs not problem.

If surfing is the main game it's a great choice.

Maddog tail on the left Nalu on the right, gives you a idea how it surfs so well for a long board.

Thanks for the input. I had the old 10' x 28 1/2 years ago and regret selling it. It wasn't the best nose rider but surfed like a short board.

Hi mate, if you have the skills you can nose ride the 10x29, I have heavy and slow feet so I tend to ride the back half of the board. I shuffled towards the front on a wave last weekend, and the board started rolling on its V, certainly letting me know to work on my foot work if I want to get up there.
Again it's great choice if you want a performance longboard.

Hey DTB,

What's the weight of the Nalu?

Hi Hoppo, it's on the roof of the car ready for an early surf tomorrow
I weigh it tomorrow for you, it feels lighter than the Maddog under the arm.

Sounds like they kept the same shape, which is a good thing.

Hi Hoppp, I had it on the scales this morning, without fins I came out at 10 kilos.

Why no fins you ask, well my last wave this morning broke two out of the board :(

I will post the sad story on the general page...

Hey there I've got the 10' 29 I'm 86kg it's a super stable board I actually would pretty a little less litres but for someone learning or for a hubby buying a board for the mrs to cruise on it would be handy addition to your quiver if the mrs isn't keen on a paddle. I find it great for noserides and surfing traditional style longboard surfing I recently tweaked with the fins and put a set of Harley inglbey fcs 2 quads in it. Definitely made a massive difference for me,i wasn't really enjoying it to much but kept trying different fin configurations and found some good waves and now I'm loving it!
