Carlton River Flatwater Paddle
1st paddle for the season this morning, conditions were perfect for the upriver leg, but a light southerly made the crew work a bit harder on the return journey. Great to see Lionel Daley & James Lyons make the trip from the NW coast to join us and good to see Club President Tony Leitch back paddling also. Next paddle 5th December.

SUP SUMMER SURF SERIES.
Entries are now open, just hit the link to sign up. It will run under the same format as previous years of everyone surfing 2 heats per round with points totalled after the last round to decide the club champion and take home the prestigious trophy. R3 will run at Bicheno with an extended program to fill in the whole weekend, further details to be released. Our major sponsor this series is locally owned Shipstern Surf at Sorell so make sure you show your support in return when the need comes for some new gear or doing your Christmas shopping.
This isn't the WSL so don't think you aren't good enough to compete, it's all about having a few laughs and some casual competition that will lead to improved surf skills.

Doesn't get much better than this. Perfect conditions for this morning's Huon River paddle, an easy 6km with some current to make the paddle back even easier
Next Flatwater cruise 9 January.

Summer Surf Series R1 went off this morning at the Mecca Bowl in small clean waves giving everyone a chance glory. There seemed to be a few nerves with this the 1st round of the season and most off the crew didn't settle into their rhythm until the 2nd round of heats. With many tied scores requiring count backs to seperate the SUPers it really could of been anyones round with no real standouts. Due to lack of barrels, though there were a couple of tries there won't be a best barrel award from Shipstern Surf shop and this will be carried over to R2.

How good is this thread? Looks like a real decent sup group you blokes have down there. Every photo looks like alot of untouched land. Super relaxing to look at. And the comps look fun and not over the top with competitiveness.

Paddle in the Valley 9/1
Big turn out for this morning's paddle on the Derwent at New Norfolk with all enjoying the perfect conditions. An easy 6k cruise to the bridge and back with the odd boat wake to test the balance. Thanks to Cam from Derwent Valley SUP School for some tips for the less experienced paddlers.

Summer Surf Series R2 was run this morning under the clear blue skies and warm waters of the SUPer Bank in some of the smallest waves in SUP competition history. It wasn't that hard to find a wave, as long as it wasn't over knee high. The Best Barrel and Biggest Bucket Chucked awards were safe today, but Steve C made 2 very good attempts at the WTF was that award and takes home a Shipstern Surf voucher for his reward.

Bicheno SUP Weekend Champion Trophy
Traditional we don't spend much on trophies and have made no exception this time. 3rd in a race in 1986 at the Lindisfarne Sail Club we managed to secure this from the Mornington Tip Shop for $2. If you are wanting to get your name on this you will need to compete in the Surf & Race events displaying skill, cunning and what ever else is takes, or it could go to someone just for having a good crack at it.

Bicheno SUP Weekend 2022
Friday arvo a few hit Redbill to blow off the pre comp nerves in some warm knee high waves with the promise of better swell for Saturday. That night saw the usual crew and some new ones catch up at one of the many sponsors, Food & Brew Bicheno for great pizza a few drinks and some trash talk.
Saturday morning the SUP wave scouts were out early in the hope of finding some good waves, but after scouring the coast not much was on offer and with a forecast onshore due to hit sometime it was decided Redbill was as good as anything else on offer. We got under way in small clean conditions, but it wasn't long before the wind started to increase and after 3 heats it had become unSUPable and the call was made to carry over until Sunday. Saturday arvo saw the crew head to James & Elaine's for a few bbq snags and beers before heading to another sponsor, Tasmanian Coastal Seafoods for a great feed of fish and chips as well as the show bag hand out.
Sunday finally saw some increase in the swell and cleaner conditions, so things were back on track and with some chest high sets if you were lucky to be in the right place at the right time, we managed to get through the rest of the program pretty quickly with Annie taking out the woman's in a close final from Laurene, Cassie & Elaine. James managed the Triple Crown once again, taking the Mens, Surf Race and sharing 1st in the 10' with Dave.
As usual the surf cleaned up after the comp had finished for those that hung around to share a few waves and the froth for a free surf before heading home. Big thanks to those that came, Bryan Hughes for the photos, our great sponsors Shipstern Surf Sea Urchin Design Jay Sails Wind Kite SUP Sealife Bicheno Rainy Day Caf? & Laundromat Blue Edge Bakery Bicheno Bicheno Penguin Tours Bicheno Surf Food & Brew Bicheno The Farm Shed Govern?rs Bicheno Sub41 Eaglehawk Pavilions Tasmanian Coastal Seafoods TassieSUP and great to see the female participation increase, this will now be on the calendar for next year.

Summer Surf Series 2021-2022

The series wrapped up today in some of the biggest and straightest closeouts see all season, it was great to have some swell this round, but some banks would of been nice to go with it. The 1st heat had the best of the waves, with some good rides to be had in between closeout sets that tested everyone, with some nasty wipeouts endured by those that ventured onto them. Hamish R after a close tussle with Dave B all season managed to take out both his heats giving Hamish enough points to take the series.
Big thanks to series sponsor Shipstern Surf and their supporter of SUP and we look forward to supporting them in the future.

Make A Wave

Hey SUP surfers and paddlers this September we are surfing/paddling 30 days straight to raise money for SurfAid and families in remote surf communities. We are putting a team together and would love you to be part of it!
You might not be able to surf or paddle every day, but your efforts will still go to the teams total and if you can't manage either you can still donate to the cause. Together we'll surf/paddle throughout the month, and all the funds we raise will help provide clean water, healthcare, and food security to families in need. You can sign up to do the challenge and join the clubs team at makeawave2022.raisely.com/stormbaystanduppaddleinc
