Good evening SUPers. Ive removed some old rail tape from a paddle board but could do with some advice on how to remove the old glue that's still stuck to the board and suggestions would be most welcome.. Kev
I used tar and glue remover and then went over that with panel wipe. These are car cleaning products and worked fine on my board. Be careful with some tar and glue removers, since they can cause permanent stains on some finishes (hence why I used panel wipe quickly afterwards to be safe). Best is to always do a little test spot first somewhere on the rail.
Just use any mild cleaning products (i.e, never acetone), the trick is to keep the glue "wet" with it for at least 5 minutes. Even mere butter can work for fat-based glues and stains.
wet a cloth with the product, and let it rest on the glue. If the product is volatile (alcohol, Solvent F), add a sheet of plastic on it such as garbage bags.
Try Eucalyptus Oil.
Excellent at getting rid of sticky bits and smells good too!!
Another option is a hair dryer or heat gun to soften the glue residue and clean up with a credit card.

Bunnings has grease and wax remover that will do the job properly. Also useful if you are cleaning up the hull to do repairs.
